It is our pleasure to invite you to join us at the RANZCR New Zealand ASM 2025 in our vibrant capital, Wellington from the 15-17 August.
The theme for our 2025 conference is ‘What We Do in the Shadows’, a nod to the distinctive character of New Zealand television production in Wellington and also the descriptive connection to our daily work.
The scientific program will include international keynote faculty at the forefront of their field, complemented by our community of expert New Zealand speakers.
This year, we are delighted to host three fantastic Clinical Radiology keynote speakers:
Dr Kevin Chang: Section Chief of Abdominal Imaging and Director of MRI at Boston University Medical Center and national US leader in CT Colonography.
Dr Rohini Nadgir: Neuroradiologist from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, co-author of the esteemed Neuro Requisites textbook and expert in head and neck as well as innovator in remote teaching/learning.
Dr Emmeline Lee: Women’s Imaging specialist from Perth, recipient of ASUM’s Australian Sonologist of the Year and Director of BreastScreen WA. With this breadth of Radiology talent, this year’s conference will encompass a wide array of topics for all interests.
The Radiation Oncology keynote speaker is Dr Caroline Chung, vice president and chief of Institute for Data Science at MD Anderson Cancer Centre. She is a clinician-scientist, associate professor in Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging with CNS focus.
Followed by a virtual presentation from Dr Richard Shaffer who is a president of the International Organisation for Radiotherapy for Benign Conditions. He is a clinical lead for benign radiotherapy for GenesisCare UK, as well as a multidisciplinary team of local experts discussing ongoing advancements in Radiation Oncology. Dr Bala Vellayappan is a research director and well renowned radiation oncologist from Singapore who is keen to share his management of radionecrosis – he is available for interactive discussion with attendees.
The combined session panel will also be held to discuss the ethics of AI (artificial intelligence), and medico-legal implications of AI in clinical practice. This session will include data sovereignty, Māori data governance, privacy and bias in the AI industry creating ethics issues. Members will be able to claim cultural safety CPD for this session.
Of course, the scientific side of the event will be matched by our engaging and lively social events. The conference dinner will be hosted at the prestigious Parliament Buildings, starting with pre-dinner drinks in the Grand Hall, followed by dinner in the beautiful Banquet Hall. This iconic venue, known locally as ‘The Beehive’, offers excellent catering and a distinctive Wellington and New Zealand experience.
Looking for some ideas on how to spend your time in the ‘coolest little capital in the world’ (a title bequeathed by the Lonely Planet travel guide), pre and post conference? Look no further than these excellent suggestions, to suit all budgets, ages and weather.
Join us – we look forward to seeing you there!
Nga mihi nui,
Dr Leah Schafer (Radiology)
Dr Slavka Kudrnova (Radiology)
Dr Han Kim (Radiation Oncology)
